Survey Information

Methodology and Demographics

The survey was distributed online to social work students at the University of Michigan during the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 semesters. It consisted of 28 questions, including multiple-choice, Likert scale, and open-ended questions. In total, 110 students completed the survey, providing a response rate of approximately 25% of the total social work student population. 84 (76%) students were on-campus status and 26 (24%) students were online status.

More specifically of the respondents, 88 (75.86%) identified as Cisgender Female; 7 (6.03%) identified as Cisgender Male; 4 (3.45%) identified as Gender Fluid; 13 (11.23%) identified as Genderqueer / Nonbinary; and those who identified as Transgendered or Other made up the remaining 4 (3.45%) of respondents.  

93 (75.23%) identified as White; 4 (3.15%) identified as Black; 8 (6.30%) identified as Asian; 14 (11.02%) identified as Hispanic/Latine; 5 (3.94%) identified as Middle Eastern/North African respondents, and those who identified as Native American; First Nations; Indigenous; Native Alaskan/Hawaiian or Other made up the remaining 3 (2.36%) respondents.

Field Placements

71% (77) of respondents stated they were currently in field. 

Of the remaining 29% (33) respondents, 90% (21) respondents somewhat or strongly agreed that they are worried that field will impact their financial situation. (Please note that 3 were excluded from this count as they were previously in field.)
